Established in 1742 and incorporated in 1854, the Town of Bladensburg was an important colonial port and the site of the Battle of Bladensburg in August 1814.  Though not evident today, the town was well known for its mineral spring and spa, and serve as a major tourist destination for high society from Georgetown and the District of Columbia in the 18th century.
